How Long can People with End Stage Kidney Disease Live

At End Stage Kidney Disease, the patients' kidneys are damaged seriously and less than 15% of their renal function is reserved. Therefore, nearly all patients with End Stage Kidney Disease patients are very concerned about their life expectancy.
As for the life expectancy of End Stage Kidney Disease, there is no a definite answer to this question because it is mainly influenced by various kinds of factors including their disease conditions, treatment methods.
Disease condition
Although many patients have End Stage Kidney Disease, their life expectancy may vary greatly. Some patients with End Stage Renal Disease may not have obvious symptoms and keep the body indexes very well. For this part of patients, if they can receive proper treatment in time, it is very possible for them to live a normal live as other healthy people. However, some patients may have serious complications like hypertension, high blood sugar, heart disease and so on. These complications can shorten the life expectancy of the patients with End Stage Kidney Disease. Therefore, the patients with kidney disease should not ignore the importance of the prevention of complications.
Treatment methods
Dialysis and Kidney Transplant are commonly used by the patients with End Stage Kidney Disease. It can not be denied that those two methods play an important role in prolonging the life expectancy of End Stage Kidney Disease patients. However, both of them have many side effects on the patients. In terms of dialysis, it can only replace a portion of the kidney functions and help discharge some metabolic wastes out of body. But dialysis does not have secretion function so it can not secrete some hormones like hemopoietin. Therefore, even if the patients undergo dialysis, their renal function still keeps declining gradually. As more and more people are diagnosed with kidney disease, the sources of kidneys are rare. As a result, many patients with End Stage Kidney Disease lose their life in their wait for Kidney Transplant. What’s more, even if they receive Kidney Transplant successfully, they have to deal with rejection reaction. In some cases, their transplanted kidneys may fail in a short time.
Therefore, in order to prolong the life expectancy of End Stage Kidney Disease, the patients need to treat their disease from the root cause. In the terminal stage of Kidney Disease, most of the glomeruli responsible for filtrating blood are necrotic. Therefore, the key to improve the patients life quality and prolong their life expectancy, they should receive treatments that can repair their renal intrinsic cells. Once the renal function is improved greatly, the life expectancy of End Stage Kidney Disease will certainly prolong.
Therefore, if the patients with End Stage Kidney Disease receive treatment as early as possible and prevent its complications, they will be able to live a normal life as others.
