Are You at Risk of Developing Renal Failure

Renal Failure is a situation in which the kidneys malfunction, leading to a series of symptoms like elevated creatinine, reduced GFR, hematuria, anemia etc. Early inspection and timely treatment can improve the prognosis of Renal Failure and make patients free of dialysis or kidney transplant. So, it is essential for people to know if they are at risk of developing Renal Failure.
High-risk groups of Renal Failure
Diabetes
Diabetes is the most common cause of Renal Failure, accounting for 44% of new cases. Kidney damage is usually seen among people with more than 10 years history of Diabetes. In stage 1 and 2 Diabetic Kidney Disease, the kidney damage can be reversed completely. However, most of people do not know they have kidney damage until they begin to have noticeable symptoms. In that condition, the disease has at least developed into stage 3 of Diabetic Kidney Disease.
High blood pressure
High blood pressure is the secondary cause of Renal Failure. Kidney Disease caused by high blood pressure usually occurs people between age 40~50 with more than 5 years' disease history. As renal tubule is involved firstly, increased nighttime urination is the first sign of Hypertensive Nephropathy.
Genetic Kidney Diseases
ADPKD( Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease) is the most common genetic kidney disease. If one of parents have the disease, every child( both girl and boy) has 50% chance of developing the disease. If both of parents have the disease, the heritability will increase to 75%. It is reported that more than half of people with ADPKD develop Renal Failure by age 60.
Besides ADPKD, genetic Nephritis and congenital Nephrotic Syndrome are also common causes for Renal Failure.
Risk factors for Renal Failure
Abuse of medicines
Long-term abuse of medicines like painkillers, antibotics, herbal medicines etc can cause damage to renal interstitium. Left untreated, it will cause Renal Failure finally.
Infection, especially urinary tract infection
Infection is a risk factor for Renal Failure. The infection in other body parts can enter the kidney by blood circulation and cause inflammatory response in kidneys.
The above article has listed the high-risk groups of Renal Failure and the risk factors for the condition. If your condition is not included in the above, you can leave a message below or send an e-mail to khkpcn@hotmail.com.
