Can Lowering Blood Sugar Reverse ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease)

Diabetic Nephropathy is also called Diabetic Glomerulosclerosis and is a common complication of Diabetes. Left untreated or treated ineffectively, Diabetic Nephropathy will develop into End Stage Renal Failure. Poor control of blood sugar is the main cause of Diabetic Nephropathy. Therefore, many patients ask: can lowering blood pressure sugar reverse ESRD?
In order to make clear the answer to the above question, let’s see why Diabetes can lead to renal injury. Diabetes is not a single disease, but a systemic microangiopathy. If the patients with Diabetes have a poor control of blood sugar, it will lead to sugar metabolic disturbance, renal haemodynamics change the incrassation of glomerular basilar membrane and glomerulosclerosis. Once Diabetes develops clinical Diabetic Nephropathy, the renal function will decline persistently and finally develop into End Stage Renal Failure. For the patients with ESRD caused by Diabetes, their kidneys have been damaged seriously, so lowering blood sugar can not reverse ESRD at all, but it can slow down the disease progression to some extent. In order to reverse ESRD, the patients should restore the damaged glomeruli so as to improve the renal function. Glomeruli are composed of renal intrinsic cells including epithelial cells, endothelial cells and mesangial cells. The key to repair the damaged glomeruli is to restore the renal intrinsic cells. Here Immunotherapy is suggested to the patients with ESRD due to Diabetic Nephropathy.
Immunotherapy is different from Kidney Transplant. In the treatment of ESRD, Immunotherapy can restore the damaged glomeruli so their renal function will improve greatly and their ESRD will be reversed in some cases.
Therefore, lowering blood sugar simply can not reverse ESRD at all. If you or your loved ones are Diabetes patients and want to know more about the preventive measures against Diabetic Nephropathy, please email to khkpcn@hotmail.com.
